Infant Swimming Resource

Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) is the product of over 40 years of research in the field of infant drowning prevention through aquatic survival instruction. During lessons, hosted by TWIGS KIDS' Dolphin Cove Swim School, participants from 6 months to 6 years old are taught methods of self-rescue and survival in the case of an accidental encounter with a body of water. ISR is a nationally recognized organization and is the first program of its kind, applying infant drowning prevention instruction through specialized  techniques which have gained a 100% safety rating.

All ISR instructors undergo thorough training both academically and through active instruction. Instructors are constantly monitored and evaluated for their safety and teaching methods and must pass annual re-certification requirements.

Infants 6 to 12 months old are instructed in the Rollback-to-Float program where skills including breath control and posture are combined to teach the baby how to acquire and maintain a back float for varied periods of time. In an actual dangerous encounter with the water, such floating posture would be essential to allow time for help to arrive.

In the Swim-Float-Swim program, children 12 months to 6 years old are taught breath control along with the skills necessary to reach the edge of a pool or a shoreline. Infants learn correct swimming posture, movement through the water, the rollback-to-float as well as rotating to a face down position to continue to swim. This sequence can be repeated until safety is reached. In more advanced lessons, children practice their skills wearing a full set of clothing and shoes.

Since yesterday, 11 babies and young children drowned in the United States; another 39 now suffer permanent injuries from similar accidents. Today, drowning ranks second only to automobile accidents as the most prominent cause of accidental death for infants and toddlers. Infant Swimming Resource has taught more than 5 million safe and effective lessons with over 140,000 students completing lessons. To date, these lessons have resulted in 784 documented cases of children using ISR techniques to save themselves from drowning.

Aquatic accidents can happen anywhere, anytime; still, drowning is a preventable tragedy. How safe is your child?
